| I have been having problems getting gas to my motor. While looking into my tank i have noticed a tall (tampon like if will) fliter (2-3 inches tall) sticking up out of the hole for the gas to exit. Is this supposed to be there? If not what how did it get there? |

| Yes. It should be there. If you want to replace it, you need to take the fuel tap out (sometimes the filters stick in, so you might need to get your hand in there and get it out. Wolfsburg West has new ones. If you do it, you might as replace the fuel tap too, or restore it. |

Im not too familliar with these filters obviously, but it seems like gas is only trying to go in through the top, almost as is the bottom end of the filter is clogged?
As i said above i have been having trouble getting fuel through the line (actaully ZERO fuel is making back there), could this possibly be from gas only going in through the top of the filter which isnt submerged in gas because i am low on fuel? ( the top is the filter is in open air in my tank)
I am going to fill my tank tomorrow with enough gas to completely submerge the filter, i will try it then. But untill then any help is apprieciated. |

| Hey...there should be two outgoing pipes under that filter, one higher than the other. The lower one is the reserve tap...it is probably clogged as opposed to your whole filter being clogged. Still. You should at worst pour gas line cleaner in with your gas...and...the best thing you can do is leave your tank empty and unscrew the fuel tap, put in a new filter and clean out the tap. If you're lucky, your tap won't be too badly clogged and you'll be able to simply soak it in some solvent (that left over gas in your tank will work), and prod at the holes (i know, it's 'dirty' work...heh) with a piece of wire. If that doesn't get them clear, then you can (carefully) disassemble the tap by first removing a retaining ring under the rubber seal (this will all make sense to you if you take the tap off). Also you may want to squirt some degreaser on the bottom of your gas tank and rinse it out to get rid of the sludge...then make sure it's all clean and dry before you reassamble. This is really easy work. The hardest part is just removing the tap...but even that's easy. Good luck |

| Also...unless your reserve tap was removed...then you should see a small lever under your dash to the right of your pedals...this is your reserve tap lever. It may be that you simply don't have your reserve line open and this will make it impossible to get gas after your tank gets below the higher of the two outputs. Turn this lever. If this solves your problems then you're golden...I would still recommend cleaning your tap and changing your filter though, if you've got time and you like the smell of gas. |

where exactly is the reserve stored? seems like you are saying i should be on reserve right now... i still have atleast a gallon or 2 in there.
also, i can blow through the gas line and it can be heard inside my tank, this is why i do not think my gas line is clogged. |

the shorter tube is your reserve tube, tank uses all the gas that the big tube is feed fron, then flip the lever and the short tube takes over, one tank, 2 tubes to feed the gas to the engine.

| yeah, like he said. Turn the reserve lever then try blowing through the fuel line. if you get bubbles (or a mouth full of gas) then you're in business. Again, the reserve lever is inside the car, below the dash in the dead center, to the right of the pedals. Looks like a bent metal rod. It's a poor man's gas guage. When you have to turn the reserve lever, you know it's not too long before youshould be buying some gas. |

I know what is does, where it is, whats its for, etc. But it is very stiff when i try to turn it, almost like it wont ever turn. What to do? |

| The best thing you can do is take out the tank and the reserve tap and check it out that way. If the reserve lever is too stiff to move then your tap could be rusted in place. Try harder, remove it and fix it, or always make sure you have more than 3 gallons of gas. The choice is yours |
