Are there any tricks or tips I can use to get my 34 PICT to work well off road? I know they are less than great in the application. Im using the stock vacuum distributor as well, so I dont have the flat spot to contend with. Any pointers for making this carb work in off road application would be great. TIA

Just place a piece of hose( about 6") over the breather tube in the bore of the carb up into the air filter to prevent fuel sloshing and flooding. Then add a dual element filter as Herbie suggested. The other thing I would add is some sort of support, from the air filter to the top of fan shroud, to keep it from falling offin rough terrain. http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=60548

Any pics would be great. Pics of the tube inside the venturi, or anything else. TIA

....It's an old school way to do it, but what Brad is suggesting works great!
I set up most of my 'pit box' carbs in that manner. (including the one I swiped off the wifes Baja during a race.) That way if the main carb so much as even sputters, they could change the whole carb in minutes.

I pulled my air filter off and I figured out which tube HB B was referencing. Its coming off the top right in front of the float bowl. It appears to be an overflow vent for the float bowl. It has an angled cut on top. Just extend that up into the air filter with a piece of fuel line to prevent excess fuel from dumping down the carb throat?

I dont have Hibbards book, so thats why Im all questions.

How far up did you extend the bowl vent tube? Did you braze or sloder another to it or use the fuel line trick?
