I cannot get the glove box open on my 74 convertible. It opened fine one day but would not open the next day. It feels like the latch is broken and not releasing. Any help in getting it open without breaking anything would be appreciated.
Thanks |

you may be able to use a couple of those really small flat head screwdrivers to gently push the latch back and pry the door open...
if not, you may have to go up underneath the dash and come up that way... |

| before you get too dirty, make sure you try it with two people, one on latch and one on release. My 72 vert sticks occasionally |

I don't own a vert, and I may be crazy, but I think it would be tough to get two people tweakin' on the GLOVEBOX knob
Sorry.......... I couldn't resist, only messin'.
On the '74, does the lock "Squeeze" or is it a turn knob? Sounds like the locking cylinder went bad. Try turning/working the key while attempting to work the mechanism.
Good luck |

Eric,
It would be a tight fit for two people, thats for sure.
The 74 has the squeeze lock.
I have tried using screw drivers, and also a small stiff wire to try to release it (even a few bad words) but nothing has worked yet. I looked under the dash but I am not sure how to get in that way. I have two keys but neither one of them will fit in the lock.

If worse comes to worse, drill the lock. It will definately release at that point. That will keep you from destoying the door and dash, and it sounds like you'll have to replace the lock and latch anyway. You won't be able to pry it open without doing major damage to the surounding parts, and they're alot more expesive to replace.
Good luck |

| unscrew the clamp that holds the box on and pull the box out. You cn get to the latch after you do that. |
