| I've owned my bus for just about 6 years now, so I figured that I would have known all the stupid crap that's been done to my bus by now... Apparently not. I've got it all apart right now to add an external oil cooler and reseal the motor and a few other things. Well, I pulled the transmission to make it easier to mount the oil cooler, and while I had the transmission out, I figured hell, might as well replace the shifter linkage bushings while I've got the transmission out. Not sure when I'll have the opportunity again... So I went under the front of the bus and undid the front shift coupler and pulled the two rods apart, not really thinking much about it, then went to the back and grabbed the rear coupler and started pulling. Got about 4 inches and it stopped... Wtf? Went back up front and started looking. Called a friend and asked him. How the hell does this rod come out when the front of it has a slight bend to it? "Dude, that rod is supposed to be straight..." Apparently one of the PO's of my bus didn't want to replace the shifter bushings, so they decided to just bend the shift rods instead to make the center rod sit against the bottom of the tube that it rides in. It actually worked rather decently as the shifter had a decent feel to it. But now I have to replace both shift rods and cut the long one to get it out... ](*,) |
