I'm trying to time my engine appropriately, and I think I'm supposed to time it to 5* ATDC, since I have the 2 hoses from the dist. Does that mean I time it to the notch? How can I be sure that the pulley is the right one for the year (I was told this came from a '72 Super)?
Also, if anyone notices anything wrong with the engine, please share. I see some dangling hoses and some plugged ports/holes, and I'd like for the engine to run as well as possible. By the way, there are no heat exchangers in this car. Thanks.

That is a 1600cc Engine Dual Port. It has a alternator. In 1972, they came with Generators, someone must have put the Alt on it if it was original on a 1972. Most VW engines by prior owners were swapped, because it is alot easier to change a engine then to rebuild one in most cases, even price wise. You can look up the number, on the block under the Gen/Alt stand, probably starting with a H or a AE and give it on here and I will help you find the month and date that engine was built, granted it wasnt rebuilt yet.
PS -- nice tennis balls. |

| It's a 72. The alternator is a replacement with internal regulator. |

| Oh yeah, fuel filters are not supposed to be in the engine compartment. If you had a small fire in there, those plastic filters will melt and then you really have a big problem. |
