| I have a 72 Super Beetle, in the trunk underneath the spare tire there is a round metel plate about 6" in diameter towards the nose of the car. Also there is a smaller one about 14" back from the 1st one. Can any-one tell me what these are for? Thanks |

The large one gives you access to the difficult-to-get-to bolt for the steering damper. Not sure about the smaller one. As the other poster said, if you can post a pic it would be great!

| no, the steering box adjustment cover is outside the spare tire well. the smaller on towards the rear of the car is for removing the steering damper bolt, but i dont know what the forward one is for, but it kinda looks like the lid to a paint can. :?: |

The big one, at the front, is for production purposes only. The hole was required to allow the fluid in the dip tanks to enter/exit easily, as the bodyshells were lowered and raised. After priming, the covers were sealed in place and then the bodys were finish painted.
You should also have three holes at the rear of the spare wheel well. One slightly larger that the other two. The first is for the steering damper and the other two at to access body to chassis mounting bolts. |
