Hi all,

I need help with some dimensions of a 56' Kombi. I have the pictures from this site which shows wheelbase & overall dimensions. I need the dimension from either the front of the van to the center of the front wheel or the back of the van to the center of the rear wheel.
If anyone can help me with any information, or where to get it, it would be a big help.

Hi Dugie6551,
Have you tried the "Dimensions for Floor Plate Assembly Parts" or "Dimensions for Body Parts" ? @

http://66.34.72.138/techinfo/index.html

If that does not work we can try to get some measurements off our 1960 walk thru panel camper conversion.

Wow !!!

Thank you , that is exactly what I am looking for. I am just about to buy a 56' Kombi to restore and I wanted the dimensions to check and make the body and frame are square and in good shape.

Is there anything else "major" that I should be looking for before I buy it ?
The seller says it is in pretty bad shape body wise. I'm going to replace the drivetrain anyway and I can do any bodywork.

Thanks again!!

Hi Dugie,
Well as always the less rust and body damage the better of course. If you are going for a complete original resto the more parts the easier it will be, but if you are going to have this as a daily driver for long distance 58+ MPH speed @3,000 RPM not the 1957 stock 45 MPH. You will probably need to go with 1964-67 suspension, freeway flier geared tranny, and 1641cc or larger engine.

Hi Dugie,
Forgot to mention to get yourself the 1963-67 "Workshop Manual Volkswagen Transporter" reprinted by Bentley. They sell from anywhere from $70.00 to 100.00 depending where you buy it. Worth every cent, and were those two measurement drawings came from!
Glad we could help,

I would recommend the 50-62 manual.
