I've posted a similar topic on the STF, but I figured I'd get some input from the guy who last dropped the engine from
the Nomad...Keifernet, what'd you do to get the
engine out of the 412 last time? :)
Also for everyone else...anyone else got some "best practices" to add to the mix for dropping the engine
WITH the auto transmission on a 411/412? |

I did not drop the trans at the same time...
there is a hole in the bellhousing on the left that you take the 3 bolts out of the toruque converter / flex plate FIRST before you undo much else.
then I took the main wiring harness off from the ECU and a few misc wires off and dropped the harness with the engine.
2 decent floor jacks and some patience is all it takes.
If you want to try and scedule it I will come help you since we are so close...

| Well, Friday I found out I could take the weekend off :) and I decided to drop the Nomad's engine by itself. Sort of unexpected, but welcome. My boss came by and we had the engine resting on a creeper about 2 hours later. The only glitch was that the center pilot on the torque converter had a bit of a rust buildup that stuck it to the crankshaft pilot hole. I discovered this when we'd wiggled the engine about 2 inches from the transaxle, but we stopped the pull and re-seated the TC (after gingerly breaking the rust buildup by prodding and twisting the TC). I wired the TC up to the bellhousing, and the rest of the engine drop went great. Thanks to Keifernet and all others that gave great suggestions. Next chance I get, I'm pulling the heads to see what's up inside. |
