Does anyone out there have pictures of the 'Germany only' white horn button (wolfsburg crest) produced for Zwitters and early ovals? I have only "heard" that these exist, but have never seen one. :? There is a picture of one on page 73 of the 1949-1950 VW Beetle Authenticity Series by Bob Wilson but that's all I have ever seen.

I've seen those buttons as being described as "home market" buttons. I've several issues of VolksWorld and remember seeing a car featured in VW Trends that featured this button. I'll look up the exact issue tonight. I know it was in a White 54 with Red interior. Issue was printed about 1993-94

Bob- Found the issue. It's in the June '93 issue of VW Trends, page 26 & 27. It's a feature on John Humpley's 54 Beetle. The button has a White background (rather than Black) with the traditional Gold castle.

I saw a whitebacked lion one the other day on ebay...no idea how rare it is, but it looked sweet.

Not really that rare and it won't fit on a batwing.

Are you referring to the one intended for use on a DKW? Ivory background with a Lion holding an anchor? If you look real close, the Lion's tail forms a small VW logo.
Bob- Though incorrect for use on a VW, it is the exact same diameter as the Pre 55 horn center. Just a tad smaller in size compared to a 1956-59 button. |

Thanks Glenn. I had a friend of mine try to put the lion on his batwing and it wouldn't fit. Does it need a different ring or does it need to be filed down a little? :?

It should be a direct replacement from the original crested horn push. He should use the bezel that came with the DKW button.
