View original topic: why a roller pedal?

Hi - just a general question - why did VW use a roller accelerator pedal originally and for so many years? Was it to conserve space in the footwell due to the intrusion of the wheel wells? Did other European carmakers use roller pedals?

Cheap and almost never have problem with them-but mostly less parts = less money/marks to build.

I STILL LIKE THE ROLLER PEDAL. THEY WORK EVEN WHEN THE FLOOR OF YOUR BUG IS FULL OF S--T.

I REMOVED THE STOCK PEDAL FROM MY PAN AND I AM INSTALLING A ROLLER AS SOON AS I GET THE BODY BACK ON THE PAN.

I've always considered the use of the roller pedal a little easier on the foot.

I used to have an aftermarket roller pedal on my '67 which I hated, but the stock roller pedal on my '55 works great and I have never had a problem with it. I'm also of the opinion that it's easier on the foot, especially on long freeway trips. --G

Gotta agree. The roller pedal rocks, especially if you're on a long trip. I did a long road trip in my 49 and it was so easy on the foot compared to the ones I have done in my other cars.
