| I noticed that some ovals have grab handles and others don't. I have a 57, which does not have one. Is this particular to some year models? or was it an extra accessory? Also, how difficult would it be to install one in my 57. I'll appreciate any info.. |

| how do you open your door? just curious....i never saw them without grab handles....hmmm maybe i never saw one with grab handles...i dunno. |

| oh, yeah i've seen some with and some without myself. I think they were an option at the dealerships offered by VW, but i'm not sure. They have chrome bases too i believe, not like other 60's models with rubber or plastic ones.... |

This grab handle was offered on the early 60's cars from the factory and was an accessory option available at many dealerships for the early cars.
My zwitter came with an accessory one when I bought it. My 62 bug has one installed from the factory. |

grab handles were added in '61.
ovals did not come with grab handles and i am skeptical about the "dealer option."
imho, a grab handle on the dash of an oval would completely destroy the beauty, uniqueness and simplicity of the oval dash. i would never consider adding a grab handle to an oval. |

| oval56 is correct. Ovals were did have grab handles as a factory option. Happich was the provider and the pictured handle is correct. They are very popular on European cars and the "correct" grab handle can be quite expensive. |

I too will not install one on that beautiful dash-----but If you like them---go for it. :D |
