:? hey all, hope you are having good holidays. We have had a few good VW days here in the last week or so. I have tried to take full advantage. Well something has come up my car (1957 Stock 36 hp)seems to idle fine for a bit then it revs up for a minute or two then drops back off keeps doing it. Even when no one is in or touching the car. Ideas? Im thinking perhaps the carb??? any thoughts or ideas are more than welcome.

Thanks
John Duprey

Hi John,
Sounds like too much fuel. Are you getting a blackexhaust smoke or soot black plugs?
Too much fuel could be one or more of the following causes:
Fuel pump rod too high, thusly fuel pressure too high, which in turn pushes the fuel float and its needle valve down and open.
Leaky or too heavy of float.
Bad float needle valve.
