'65 hardtop bug

birth cert says "model: 195 VW Sedan deluxe"

whats the 195, or is that a typo for 1965 ???

birth cert says "Extras: M 409 / 441 cannot be identified"

anyone know what those two codes mean?

birth cert says "C-K-D (completely knocked down)-production"

was originally shipped to Mexico; does this mean it was assembled there, even though the plate under the dash says made-in-germany?

Thanks

Hey!

I know I saw a post a long time ago on Shop Talk about getting a birth cert, but didn't keep the info. How do you go about getting one? Would love to have one for my 74 bug!

Thanks.

CKD cars were made in Mexico back in the 60s before they transfered production there. What it means is your car was built in Mexico using mostly German parts.
The M code options are probably the options required for the Mexican market, like orange turn signal lenses at the rear, not the red ones we got.

Hmmm. I also have a '65 (was a hardtop) and it just says 1965 Sedan de luxe and the options are identified-us spec and whitewalls. Also says that it was shipped to Long Beach. But no numbers before the model part.
