Hey all again!

so, being new to vdubs, im looking for kinda a "road trip" suggested parts list for vanagons...

mines a wbx syncro, but is there any lists made for parts that should be taken as a general all-around spares for that "just in case" box?

so far, ive got the oil of course, tools galore, coolant (water for the most part). but what else is a common road break? i searched past posts but couldnt find one relevant...

Plugs, gas can, fuel filter, belt, tire pump, battery charger.

Triple A plus is a good thing to have - 4 tows up to 100 miles each............
spare belts, oil , tools & a Bentley book & BEER !! :shock:

I always carry extra wire, a distributer, an ecu, fuel pump, ignition coil and gas. All those items are cheep in the junkyard, don't take up much space and would be painful to have to order new in the middle of some small town. I'm in denver what part of Co. are you in?

On the 2.1's, carry an extra plastic water junction that sits directly in front of #1 cylinder

Seen several later model vehicles sitting onside of the road with anti freeze draining out from that side, usually its that corn ball plastic water connector that fails :wink:

I've been putting together some spare parts to take on my cross country tip and i couldn't figure out the junction pipe you spoke about. does it have a specific name?

Not sure what it is called. Water junction that sits up behind #1, you can see water hoses running into it....several junctions... 8)

Phone, 1 Gal of H20, 1 Qt Oil, 1 Qt of ATF (for P/S). JB WELD, Nylon Zip Ties, Duct Tape, AAA card, Beef Jerkey, Screwdrivers, Pliers, Sockets, etc..

oh and a spare vanagon

I believe that part is named the 'distribution unit'. And corn ball is an extremely nice term for that engineer's revenge design (having just replaced one of the 200 or so hoses (okay, 5) that connects to it. You know, there is really lots of empty space in the back of these things. They at least could it somewhere just a tad accessible. What's a few more centimeters of hose when you already have a kilometer or so?

all good for carriering . but water pump . thermostat ,extra engine oil , belts of course, a good spare tire -recheck it , brake fluid. and the most important of all a COPY OF THE A.I.R.S LIST of the states you are going thru . have a good trip . good luck,have fun
