Hello-

Has anyone tried lightening the flywheel on their Okrasa/oldspeed motor? I've seen references to reducing flywheel weight to ~14 lbs. in some 356 books, but I've never seen any references in any vintage oldspeed books/articles.

Thanks,

Paul

Thanks guys for all the inspiration and help for those that have answered some of my questions. Unfortunately I no long need my hot rod parts any more as I do not have a vehicle to put it in. I hate to put an ad in this thread  but I would like to see the parts go to someone that can bring this engine to life.

Maybe you folks can help me out with this problem I seem to be having. My car was kind of falling on its face power wise in the higher rpm ranges and when going up an incline. I figured it was fuel starvation, since that seems to be a common problem upon increasing carburetion and displacement. Last weekend before Pomona, I installed an electric fuel pump, took the check valves out of the stock pump, and put on a new fuel filter. This morning on the drive to work, it seemed to be doing it again after driving fine for the last couple of days. Any ideas on what the real problem could be?

Shorrock Sat Jun 07, 2008 3:11 pm

Brad, Twice I thought I had fuel problems and both times it was ignition. Points once, changed to Pertronix and then with the Pertronix installed it turned out to be I was too advanced above 3000 rmp. Easy to check.

HamburgerBrad Sat Jun 07, 2008 5:38 pm

i think my problem was crap in the fuel. i pulled the tops off the carbs, crap in there. gas cap off, flashlight, crap in there. cleaned it all out, new filter, seems to be ok. lets just hope.

Shorrock Sun Jun 08, 2008 6:39 am

Sorry Brad,

Figured you had been there already. I have my electric pump under the gas tank with the filter between the tank and pump, then another filter over the axle.

yeah, that's what i've got too. I think the crap got in though when i was bench tuning it. there was some in the tank, but i don't know how it could have gotten through the filters.

Thin air and extra radiation but water we have at least for now. I missed that one. Guess it could be my 65 hour work week or frustration finding another Denzel head. Or.....

Thanks for helping me out though!!

Anyone recommend a good distributor for a dual 28PCI setup on my motor? The vacuum unit on my original unit is either toasted or just not up to the job.

Will a regular 009 be the best bet, or does anyone have any other suggestions?

thomaskaefer Mon Jun 30, 2008 12:22 pm

Hey James!

Ask Glenn (Glenn Ring) or Ed (Ed Fall) for the perfect setup! They are the best on this question!

I think a 010 or 019 would be the best choice.... and period correct, not as an ugly 009 ;-)

But, gentleman, one and only one serious question left..... I got hot heads for my 40hp racer.... and now?

Where to get rockers, valves and intakes...?

Regards and thanks for your comments!
