Anyone know if pre 55 axle tubes are different than 59-60? I am installing a 59 style split case trans in a pre 55 pan and it seems the axle holes don't line up. I will have another go at it this weekend but I can only get 2 bolts in.

cheers,
Dave...

What bolt holes are you trying to line-up? The 3 that attach axle tube to spring plate? They are all the same.

They are well what is the trick to getting the upper rear one in place? It wants to twist the spring plate and that pushes the holes out of alignment. It is a shame because I painted all the components and now its all scratched. Guess Ill wait for all bolts to be in place before repainting the area.

thanks,
Dave...

make sure whoever built the trans did not install the axle tubes on the wrong sides if it was just built or all you should need to do is rotate them till all the holes line up. Your 55 should have the brake line holders that bolt to the tube, I am not sure that a 59 did but that is just a correctness issue. If your bake line holder is welded on it points towards the front of the car if this helps line things up.

All crashbox trannies (up to 60) had the bolt-on brake line bracket.
