I have seen some original/unrestored deluxe cars with the pearl white hub (under hubcap) and body color around the wheel rim and also some with the body color around the hub and the pearl white around the wheel rim. I have seen them both ways even on original type 1 literature. What is correct? Does anyone have any ideas??

If the wheels center hub is painted in Pearl White, the car is probably a 64-earlier model with the outer rim matching the color of the car. Most wheels that have the outer rim painted in Pearl White, are for 65-later cars. These wheels of course have the inner hub painted Black. I've never seen a 65-later wheel painted a body color with a Pearl White outer.
Not all wheels were painted with the car color & Pearl White combo. My 1962 Anthracite Beetles wheels were painted Beige on the outer rim & Slate Grey in the center hub |
