View original topic: Swapping at 914ish 2.0 into a 911...

have a lead on a beater (little rust) early 70's 911 with a blown6 cyl. engine. And, since I have a spare 2.0 porshe and VW engines sitting around (I'm a Bay Window guy) I'd like to swap the 2.0 into the 911 while I rebuild the 6 cyl.

Could not find anything specific via search and am hoping somebody can advise.

Thanks much and Happy New Year!!!

what year 911? 72 on had a larger than vw mainshaft spline, and 70 and later had a pull type clutch that would not relate to any vw.

am trying to get some serial numbers from the seller as it might be a hodgepodge of parts. Haven't bought it yet so should I be looking for a '69 or below?

Will advise as soon as I get better detail and sorry to be so unprepared--might throw me out of the Boyscouts.

Thanks again, Mark

if you want to go VW power, a '69 or earlier would be best. you would still have to fab a rear mount, and misc crap. but they would relate to the 911/912 trans/clutch, and you could build a hot 4 cyl vw for much less cash than a 912 engine. they are rust prone, so be careful.

1976 912E has a 914 engine in it. The sheetmetal has a 923 part number.

the help and feedback yet have decided to pass on the project. Am breeding cars too fast to live in the city. Thanks again, Mark
