well hopefully ill have my new baja project by this weekend. and if i dont, than i am on the look out for a new baja. im selling the one i have now just because this one i want has ALOT of stuff already on it that mine doesnt for a cheap price. so this will be a basic walkthrough of what i will be doing including parts im going to get. THIS SHOULD BE FUN! :D ill be using a 6" wider beam with tweed designs 4 inch longer than stock arms. 1 3/4 inch wider front arms

with sway away race runner 2.5" coil over shocks HOPEFULLY get 18" of travel out of the front but 16" will be good.

FULL custom front cage, interior cage, and engine cage.my rear suspension will consist of bcr's 4x5 rear trailing arms

american eagle's rear heim joint conversions to eliminate the torsion arms

and ill be using sway away race runner 2.5" coilovers for the rear also hopefully getting 20-22" of travel out of those. i will have an 091 bus tranny with a 2.0 subby turbo motor. but that will be the last thing to go in, for now ill stick with my 1835

my interior will have two beard supers in it, scat drag fast shifter, 5point harness's along with an entire cage. ill have a 1-piece front clip with a custom front push bar. theres alot more to list but ill just leave it at that for now. hopefully i will have this baja done by october. the only thing holding me back from getting it done sooner. thanks for all the support ill be getting and help. KEEP YOU ALL INFORMED! if anybody has any suggestions or questions just post them THANKS GUYS

with 4" over arms, 16" of travel is still alot to expect. here's a quick cad drawing for you to visualize the angles those arms will go through for only 16" of travel

Josiah Tue Jan 11, 2005 1:23 am

ohh it WILL BE DONE! haha i dont care how long i have to work on the placement of my shocks and what i have to do but 16" is my GOAL thanks brad

HBB. Excelent CAD drawing on the 4 inch but do you have something similar for the 2.25". That has been a burning question for me and builder Bob. What is the reasonable lowest point of the travel arc for the 2.25"? On the flip - What is the max arc for the upswing? Currently I have limits due to the top and bottom tubes but it seem to get 10"+ with toe in .125 to .1875 at the top of the arc.

The only reason I ask about the CAD drawing - makes good awnser fodder for me and some of the people who need something that shows an engineered aspect.

the max arc is all dependant on how you want the ride. the more vertical it is at the bottom, the more it takes to move it up initially. at those same angles, which seem reasonable for max upper and lower travel points, you can figure for a shade over 13" with the 2.25" over arms and coilovers.

My shock guy (who sets up a bunch of race cars) told me 16 will be very tough, that 14 maybe 15 is more realistic. I am still waiting on some parts for the front end. I am busy pulling my hair out over the rear set up and cage. I am getting 12.5-13in in the rear and hoping for 14in up front. I have about 9.5 compression in the rear and 3.5 droop. I am hoping for 10in compression and 4in droop out front. I don't see how more than 12inches is possible with the 2.25 arms. The cage around the front and the body is the big limiting factor for me but I am sure that the baja's body is going to have to be cut up some for clearence, as well. Shoot some pics of the new car when you get it.

good luck jed on your project. ill put pics up as soon as i get it :)

who makes a good pair of king kong front spindles? any special requirements for them? because im thinking about getting those front arms from tweeds but king kong link hole.

ohh and really important quick question, are stock rear trailing arms identical from left side to right? like if i used one as a bracket guide to weld in irs brackets i could use one trailing arm to figure out both sides? thanks guys i really need to know that fast

jedrattle Thu Jan 13, 2005 8:18 am

I have the stock arms both sides laying on the floor if you want to use them. I don't live far from you.

Josiah Thu Jan 13, 2005 1:48 pm

alright thanks alot, do you have the springplates to? or do swing axle and irs use the same size spring plates? call me whenever u get this so i can come down, 9518586394 thanks again

HamburgerBrad Thu Jan 13, 2005 2:11 pm

swing spring plates are longer

Josiah Thu Jan 13, 2005 2:43 pm

yea thats what i htought but i wasnt sure, hopefuly jed has the plates to, but their probably on his project haha

HamburgerBrad Thu Jan 13, 2005 3:13 pm

i have a set of IRS trailing arms and spring plates if you want to borrow them to set your stuff up. if you are going to set them up in stock position, i'm even willing to help make a jig off of the torsion housing in my rail since it still hasnt been put together

Josiah Thu Jan 13, 2005 3:47 pm

thatd be great brad. either way, the jig or the arms with the plates. maybe we could meet up at pacific customs? since i have to go there to get the irs brackets n e ways? or i could just drive to your house wichever

HamburgerBrad Thu Jan 13, 2005 3:54 pm

i'm in chino hills, 15-20 minuts from pacific customs. i've got a few parts on my list anyhow...

baja5 Thu Jan 13, 2005 5:02 pm

Talk to Tweeds about spindles. that's where i got mine.

jedrattle Thu Jan 13, 2005 5:35 pm

Come and get them! Spring plates too!

Josiah Thu Jan 13, 2005 5:47 pm

thanks alot brad, but ill go with jedrattle since hes ALOT closer and i can go to sab wich is like 10 minutes away and get the irs brackets. THANKS ALOT FOR THE OFFER THOUGH BRAD, AND THANKS TO JEDRATTLE FOR LETTING ME BORROW THOSE ARMS
