I'm curious about a paint "scheme" that I've seen in several original photos of old Beetles, but never in real life. Specifically, the fenders and front and rear aprons are painted dark (black?) but everything above is another color. There's a decent photo of this in the book _Volkswagen: Then, Now, and Forever_ on page 56 (it's the 1948 photo of the Karmann convertible posed in front of the stone archway door).
I repainted a metal model of an oval window in this paint scheme (black fenders and aprons and dark red upper body) and have shown it to some of my friends. Everyone says it's just about the nicest, classiest looking Beetle they've ever seen! The paint job really recalls the 1930s-era roots of our favorite car.
Anyone else have any thoughts on painting a Beetle this way? Yes, I know that such a scheme isn't strictly "stock," though it evidently does have some historical precedent. I'm seriously considering doing up my next Oval in just such a "look."

| Karmann used the two tone as did Hebmuller but I don't believe VW did it with their early cars. :? |

| Try photoshopping it and see if you like it or even just MS Paint just to get an idea. |

I have two question's for you
1 Do you like how that paint scheme looks?
2 Who's car is it?
That's all that matters!If I listened to other people's opinion,I'd still have a slow ass 36horse motor in my '60eurorag! |

Several people have emailed me asking if I've seen any pictures on the web of Type 1's that are painted like this (black fenders and aprons, body another color)... well, there are two photos at:
www.kabriolett.com/karmann/index2.htm
Look on the 2nd page of the Period Pictures (near the bottom of the page).
Thanks, kabriolett.com! Your site's GREAT!

| VW never painted a car like that especially an oval sedan. Hebmuller and Karmann sometimes but never VW. |
