Would a 1961 Bug with a 1776 with dual weber carbs be a good daily driver? Oh and what kind of hp are we talking here?

I have a 1776 with a progressive 2bbl and it is a daily driver. Mine has a higher perf cam, reworked heads with larger valves installed, headers and modified exhaust. The hp you will achieve will be dependant on a lot of factors. I believe that I read somewhere that a base 1776 with dual webers makes about 75hp.

There is no reason that this setup would not work well for you. I am in the process of working out minor bugs on mine. Part of what I am doing is attempting to get the milage up a bit. When I started tuning and playing with the engine I was only getting about 18 MPG. I am up in the high twenties now and have a new distributor on the way, I am hoping that the additional advance with the new distributor will get me over 30 mpg which is my goal.

good luck,

Mark

As long as you use good quality components and the cam is not too radical, a 1776 should last just as long as a stock 1600cc

1776 is going to be the best engine to start out with if you have all the good stuf in your engine 85-95hp is right where you need to be .its not a race car enjoy it for what it is good luck

I drove my 74 Beetle with a 1776cc with dual Dellorto 36DLRAs for 150,000 miles every day for years.

Never had a problem related to the mods.

No that's not me in the pic. I'm a Blonde, NOT a Brunette silly. And my boods measure out at 38DD, not those teenie 36Cs. If you're interested in her, let me be the first to tell you that she's a total slut and will probably end up doing you in the back of your car within 2 hours of meeting her. Is that what you want?
