Nice! ! ! ! Looks like my first '65 . . .

nimbus Wed Jan 12, 2005 9:08 am

Hey glandnut, nice ride.

Are you in J-ville, FL or NC?

56_in_714 Wed Jan 12, 2005 9:54 am

Looks clean, guess youre not a poser anymore...

orangebug60guy Wed Jan 12, 2005 9:57 am

black is a sweet color for a bug, i want to paint mine black but dan doesn't like it.

mscullion Wed Jan 12, 2005 11:09 am

looks very solid. no signs of rust either. 65 is a great year with all the vintage stuff and big windows-best of both worlds! 8) the paint looks shiney and nice-- great buy!!

flatfourkings Wed Jan 12, 2005 11:51 am

it looks swell... now all you need to do is take out that old v6 slap on a v8 remove that old scraggly paint and primer it, add fuel injection put some 22's on it and that ride will be swell....just kidding thats a bad ride how much did you get it for?

Thanks folks, I'm really happy with it. It's had one shoddy repaint, but zero rust on the body. There's a small pan hole, smaller than a dime, under the battery. All og fenders, aprons, 1200 motor, bumpers, owners manuals, key chain key code aluminum thing, and original glass including the winshield. I don't think I've ever owned one with the original winshield. I can't wait to start cleaning and rubbin' on it. Will, I'm here in town...

Very nice! My first '65 didn't look that pretty, but I was just as proud of it!

Good luck - you've found the holy grail of VW info!

Hey congratulations! that's a sweet ride... I own a 65 as well... Is that the original seat cover on the back seat? looks like it... if you can, post a pic of it... i'd love to take a closer look at it.

Just a question, do all 65's have the wheel centers painted black, and the rims white? Or is that just for black cars? I'd like to eventually paint mine Ruby Red, and would like it to look as "correct" as possible.

I thought from 65 on they did, regardless of body color.
Somebody correct me if I'm wrong.
BTW to the threader: I like your new ride!

Some '65s had an 'other than white' outer rim. My Sea Blue calls for a black center and a L289 Blue-White rim. I think in '66 or '67 they went to an all black rim, no more two tone.

black beetles look good with BRM's. :D

gerg Wed Jan 12, 2005 10:19 pm

Bill - wanted to thank you & Alan for the tip on the Single Cab you saw today. Can you PM me your thoughts on it? I am going to see it tomorrow morning.

Thanks again!

UncleBob Wed Jan 12, 2005 10:33 pm

It's about friggin' time, Jeff! Nice car!!

Let me know when you're ready to bring it over to put the baja kit on it. You still want the Super Swampers?

vic70vw Wed Jan 12, 2005 10:58 pm

Bill, Why do beetles look good with BRM? (British Racing Maroon)

glandnut Thu Jan 13, 2005 8:34 am

My first 65 had solid off white rims with no other color. That grey/bone color. I'll post some interior pics (backseat) when I get her cleaned up this weekend. I can't figure out how the damn 6V battery cover goes on, maybe the 6V battery in there is the wrong group size?
Eric- I assume you must have sold the 67'? Did Mike sell the vert too?
I'm looking for a 65 vert locking hood pull and a glovebox lock and a vert decklid, and 67' axle end castings.
