Right On! nice.

autohausdolby Fri Feb 11, 2005 6:45 am

Thanks for the kind words guys!

I mounted the decklid last night, which means the car now has its full set of rear bodywork - the proportions look a little strange in the pic below and I've realised what a fat (or phat?) back end it has :) I think when its got a nice long stinger on the back it will even it out a little.

I was also feeling a little arty so a got down under the back end of my next project, my Mk1 Golf (Euro market Rabbit) 5dr. to bring you this little ditty -

Don't worry BTW, the rear wings aren't wonky in the first pic, it's just the wide angle lens on the camera! :)

Neat. More pics, please.

cool car, autohausdolby. keep up the good work.

i totally respect you vw fanatics across the pond embracing the whole retro gasser look. it seems to be taking off over there. the maroon baboon, das muppet racer, those 2 new cars built by those brothers (cant remember their names, one green metal flake & one purple type 1). i even saw a pick in a mag of a car built to look exactly like ron flemings "very first" cal-look oval. black, stock height, 5 spoke american racing mag wheels, full trim & bumpers.

all too cool. keep it up. you guys are onto something there. 8)

keep us updated on this one. i wish there were more guys state side building cars like that. maybe they are afraid if they use those names like that they will get sued or something like what vwoa does :P just kidding i love the old gasser look vws i wish someone would talk to empi about building a replica inch pincher too.

autohausdolby Mon Feb 14, 2005 8:23 am

Thanks fellas! Try this link - it's my 'home' message board thread about the car

I love the nostalgia stuff - the scene here in the UK is bigger than ever before and the quality of the cars is getting better and better.

I think flat4 in Japan have a replica Inch Pincher, Inch Pincher Too and Deano Dynosaur car, but I'm struggling to find pictures of them. They spend most of their time underground in the flat4 museum/garage in Tokyo though.

I got the engine started last night!! I'm so pleased, and it was so LOUD! It's on open headers so I'm not sure the neighbours will be impressed.

I'm going to start fitting the flip front tonight so I'll post pics when it's done.

Bugzlife Mon Feb 21, 2005 1:24 pm

This is a street car correct, as I saw the rubber mounted engine mounts, and no engine support bars, the kind to prevent wheel hop.

none-the-less, street car, or drag car, very cool idea!

autohausdolby Fri Mar 04, 2005 5:37 am

It's not street legal (unfortunately:) ) I'm running treads and urethane engine mounts because the box is stock internally and too much traction will kill it. The box is strapped in though so I'm hoping that traction will be good enough - my first race is at the end of March so I'll find out then :D

I damaged the valve train so only ran an 18.2 but I'm out at Shakespeare County Raceway in a week and a bit's time, so we'll see what happens then :)
