my 56 has a 1500 in it, and im wondering who makes the
accordion type hose that connects the heater box to the
tube that comes out of the body. so i can hook up the heat.
the problem is that one side is 50mm and the other one is 60mm.

FYI, the "fresh air"-style heater boxes from 40hp engines have the same pipe outlet as the body inlet of the earlier cars. But it'd be harder to find such heater boxes and keep the original plastic hose. Actually, I think the connecting hoses were still metal; the plastic bellows type pipes did not start until the early '60's.
You can try going to an auto parts store to look through their muffler and tailpipe adapter rack to find an adapter to fit. You'll need to cut down the pipe's overall length so that it fits over the end of your heater box and into the mouth of the heater pipe, thereby not compressing the heater pipe too much.
How hard was it to install the 1500 engine into the oval with the heater boxes on? |

Hi Volks,
Do not use the 40 HP HEs on engine larger than a 1200 engine and even on a 1200 engine it probably not a good idea.
For more info we have written on this subject check out:

We have cut and welded the later 60mm outlet HEs so the 50mm tubes will fit and even have peeled off the sheet metal skins so we could put 1200 40 HP HE sheet metal on the later HE J-tubes.

If you still need some. I have some new ones large at one end 60mm to 50mm at other end. They are 16.95 each. I do suggest check the packing inside the units. Alot of these aftermarket replacements using fiberglass insulation in them with out any screen to keep the fibers from escaping.
I would remove it and take the material out of the old ones and use that.
Good luck |
