here's a question
I have initials in my headlight buckets on something
wondering if you guys no what they are. I would go out and take a picture
but its cold and 2 feet of snow.
But its origanal thats for sure.
It looks like after it was painted some one diped there finger in silicone
and made there initials.
Is it true that the westy factory painted the buses.
I also haave alot of drips and thumbprints. |

I also had the same thing in my headlight bucket... something written in grease pencil. I imagine it was the paint code. When they painted, the paint didn't cover as well where the grease pencil was, so you could see it. On my old 62 bus there was a piece of paper taped inside a headlight bucket on the bus with some german writing on it... never did figure out what it said, but it was old... probably original.
Heres something most people probably don't have... on the backside of my cabinets in my current bus (61 flipseat) there are drawings in pencil of airplanes flying over houses with german logos (something similar to an iron cross) on them. Its on the backside of the icebox cabinet behind the drivers rearmost window. I haven't been able to get a good picture of it as I haven't had the cabinet out ever. I can't see any evidence of the cabinet ever being out, and to draw whats on there the cabinet would have to be out. I imagine its some sort of WWII inspired drawing?? |

| if it's the passenger side headlight bucket, it tells the painter what color(s) the bus will be. |

| Yes, they are grease pencil markings giving the German names of the paint codes. A couple of mine say "Blau" since they are Dove Blue. I also have a "Licht Grau" Light Grey 1960 Kombi. |

My 1954 has the body type number in the L/H headlight bucket.
We fitted a replacement to it from a 52 bus, as it was rotten, and that too had the body type in there!
I think they stopped doing this when it went to Hannover.
Might be a wolfsburg only trait! |

| I had those marking too on my 60 bus but i think it was on lhd bucket and was 221 . I've found something too, but not a paint marking and not from the factory. I've found a US millitary card in the lower nose section, probably put there by slot of bumper braket. Dated from Aug 66. Something weird. |

My 61 DC had the same thing in the headlight bucket (Blau) but interestingly enough, it was also written in HUGE letters accross the top of the roof as well. (Under the headliner in the rear seat area)
I had seen it before in the headlight but not in the roof. Wish i had taken a picture of it but sadly, i did not.
