Lucked out, found a 56 oval body (rough but there) in the corner of an old barn, got it delivered to my house for $100....Traded my beater pick-up for a 76 standard thats a pretty decent driver (I'm pretending its an oval till my 56 is built)..... Went to buy a carb kit for the 76 at a local VW shop and picked up a really clean 63 beetle body (that happens by chance to have been the remains of my frist beetle) for $75. I must have done something good , I'm not lucky enough to be on the west coast where you can still buy one in good shape, but I've got enough pieces to build something cool out two cars that would have otherwise been scraped...

Thats my point, I restore cars (as in 100% number matching, with chalk marks, stamps etc.from the late 60's all the way back early 1900's) anything you can put back to stone stock should be, because that is one more example to stand the test of time, when there are fewer everyday. I prefer vintage performance stuff, and gass class cars like the Inch Pincher.. Although I think 36hp isn't enough power for a lawnmower, ovals are my main sickness but I'd never buy a good car to cut it up or modify it... When you start with junk you can build something thats truely your own and those that would knock you for it are the same that passed the car up because it was too rough in the frist place.

A good find is rare thing for me as well. It started with a guy B.S.ing about his super at a car show, he made mention he also had an old bug body that he was going to scrap because it was junk, when he got around to it. After six months of trying to get him to show it to me, he finally did stop by and offer it to me. When I went to see it he was ready to load it up, if I didn't buy then, it was going to the crusher the next day... I had to save it! Where are you ? I'm in Massillon. Ever been to LA Products in Akron?

I'm in Grafton about an 1 and 20 min. NW from you. I haven't been to LA Products personally but my dad has been there a few times. I've been to Jim's Custom VW a couple times, that place is pretty cool.

Year and price range/how complete, finished or, project grade? I have a friend who has had thoughts of selling one of his 52's. (Deluxe, very complete, too nice for anything but stock restoration) Beggars can't be choosers but I wish my barn find was a 52 ...

Sorry, to take so long to respond ....I just talked to the owner today, said he still hasn't made up his mind yet. He said he would let me know, before he was really into selling it. I think me bugging him for parts has resparked his interest it building it. He has a restored 52 standard and always wanted to do his deluxe to match it.
