Hello everyone
Can anyone tell me what needs to be done in order to install a type three engine in a type 1. I have a freshly rebuilt 1500/1600 single port type three engine and a beetle needing an engine.

Thanks for all your help.
Dirk.

The whole cooling setup is different, and also the dipstick tube location. You'd need all the tin, fan shrouding, and so forth from a Beetle engine...if you have a bare longblock, it would be pretty easy to build up for a Beetle, but if it's right out of the type3, there will be a lot of swapping.

Thanks for the reply, I have access to all the beetle-specific tin and genny stand. But, what about the oil pressure sender??
Thanks again for your help.

The boss on the case should be there for you to drill and tap.
