Hi guys, I just bought a 57 that came with a complete non running stock engine and want to put in my 1641 engine for now. Can I put the 57's flywheel and clutch assembly on the 1641 and install ? It seems to be a lot easier than trimming out the trans to fit the larger flywheel and since I have all the parts I wont have to buy anything. I already converted the electrical to 12v.

the 36 hp flywheel will not fit on 40 hp and newer. prefer 1966 typeII which is 180 flywheel ,but has 200 MM clutch.

O.K. thanks bill,I also have the flywheel and clutch assembly for the 1641 engine. Do I have to buy a 12v starter? or can I just change the bushing and gear?

The hub of the crankshafts are different between six and twelve volt systems.
If you are converting to 12, you will have to grind out the bell housing a little, The choices of starters are to install the adaptor starter bushing, or buy a starter that carries the number SR17, which needs no bushing.
