A few weeks ago, my brother-in-law told me that a friend of his offered to give him a Porsche motor he had lying around. He wanted me to find out what it might be worth to sell, so he can buy Harley parts. Yesterday, I came across a guy that was GIVING away a '50 Willys Jeep. No motor, seats, ect. Great reworked axles, leafs, shocks. I called up my bro-in-law, said I'd give him the Jeep for the Porsche motor. He said that would be fine, except the guy giving him the motor, now wants to give him the WHOLE car!! So I get the whole thing! Motor is out, year is in the early to mid 60's. Which models are there in that year range? 912's? I have plenty of VW's, but never had any Porsches!

The 356-series were built till 1965 (356C) In 1966, Porsche brought out the 912-series.

Thats the bad thing. I haven't seen it yet! Don't know anything about it. All the guy told my brother-in-law was the motor was a 1600 Porsche motor. He may not even have that right. Not knocking the 914 guys, but I hope its not one of those.

Good score, love the 912s ...
Could even be a 356, if so then you are my hero for the day. Post some pix.
The 912 was built with a 911 chassis and tweaked 356 engine from 1965 until 1969 and then a one-off in 1976 that had a Type IV engine. The 1965-1968 were short wheel based (my personal fav) but the 1969 and later had the more common (H?) based front end bits so much cheaper to maintain.
If it is a 914 then give it to me ! |

I finally got some pics of the car! It's a '65 356 C. All there it looks except the front bumper. Has all hubcaps, interior ect. Body has some issues, but it was FREE!! Motor was rebuilt about 2 years ago(they said). Should be picking it up this week to bring home. What is something like this worth?? How much is just a front bumper for one of these? Pics are in the gallery, I don't know how to get them from here to there.

Don't worry about what it's worth, clean it, drive it, and enjoy. It is definitely worth more than you paid  , but I'm not in any position to give you numbers. Don't sell it until you drive it for a while, you'll have a blast! If you do sell it though, could I have a chance to buy that rack?

Whoa, nice !
I agree with Papa Smurf. Change the oil, bleed the brakes and roll it. Or, take the rear bumper off, sell it (buy a small house with proceeds) and roll it outlaw style... |

With what they have told me, the motor was rebuilt, then rarely driven.(waiting for the rest of the restore, I imagine). I will get it running, see what all it needs. From what I hear, the front bumper is high $$$!! I would rather not sell it, if I ever did, I would give a finders fee to my bro-in-law!

I'd roll it Rat Rod style and really piss off the 356 purist, show up at the shows and ENTER it. When the 356 thieves offer you 2000 for it add a zero and tell them thats the price.
F@#K those 356 nazi assholes, 1 out of 10 are decent people, that's why I got out of the 356 resto biz (did it for over 10 years)

Looks as though I'm not such a "lucky bastard" after all. The day before I'm to go pick up the car, someone offered my bro-in-law $1500 for it. Now he's starting to see $$ in his eyes. He is going to "research it" and let me know whats going to happen. "You can bid on it also if you like" they said. This is a day after he said"sure, come on down and pick it up". Yeah, I'm steaming!

That looks like about a 2000 dollar 356. Whats up with hating the 356 crowd? If you think that thing is worth 20K, you need to pass me some of what your smoking!

When I contacted my bro-in-law again, I was just firming up the day I was to pick it up. He said Thurs. is o.k., then a day later HE came back and said not to come get it. When he first stated"Thurs. is good, come on down", didn't that sound like an accepted deal??
