Great thread.

Still no luck on ID for the kit in my thread.

At this point its just curiosity, it was a poorly made kit to begin with, and not layed out very well. And its current condition is dismal.

My last camper, a 67 SO45 Westy, was also a pain in the ass to ID.

A thread on custom made campers, or new additions to old ones would be cool to see. I'm sure there are a lot of long term camping(multiple weeks/months) globe trotting splitty bus owners who have come up with some more efficient heaters, stoves, fridges, solar, storage, etc, or complete custom interiors.

I bet Chris Torlasco, Lind(custom swivel seats), and others would input.

hi, my name is michael. i am from germany. at first: i am not good in talking or writing english, sorry :-) here are some pics of my so 33 camper. its a non m-coded so 33 of august 65. the restauration in not finished yet. i have the orig. curtain plain from alex which i must install, the cargo door cabinet in very bad condition. so i build one good of two bad cabinets. missing is the side cabinet which is very hard to find. here in europe is nothing. i take some more pics in the next time when iam getting to finish my bus.

Especially pages 1 & 5, which shows the front seat is part of the bed.
Better to advertise those cabinets for someone out there in GB or former empire lands. Those are very hard to find cabinets.

I had a late 63' big hatch,refrigerator door handle pannel camper with louver windows.I was told it was a adventure camper however I did not see any on this post.If you could help me identify this kit I would appreciate it.Also I have the hinges from the bed they are by metalcraft prod.co similar to a z-bed lift the bottom to unlock the hinge and fold out the bed I have brought them to a few nor-cal shows but nobody could identify them so I figured I would ask you camper guys. I just posted pics of a 57' camper in the Gallery, It appears to be an American conversion of sorts. It is based on a late 57' Standard...

Anybody have any info on this conversion?

Dav-o, you'll have to post some pictures methinks.

Leica356, doesn't look like anything I've seen before. Keep in mind there weren't any companies in the U.S. (to the best of my knowledge) doing conversions in '57, so it was converted later than that. The fact that is has windows is some evidence that it was more than a backyard effort.

There were several articles in print at the time on how to make your own interior, perhaps this is one of those? Hit your local library and check out the Reader's Guide to Periodical Literature from the early 60's, I'm sure that Popular Mechanics had a version out on how to do this, there were probably others. I know at least one of these varieties made it into a VW book or two somewhere along the line.

Very interesting, especially the absence of the third window. Did you notice a later infill job from the inside?

Have never seen one like it. Looks like someone copied the SO42 Westfalia layout pretty faithfully (unless this happened before SO42s, which is unlikely).

Although very wierd I assume the window was filled, There is a panel covering the inside but you can see some bubbling of the paint were the window was... If it was filled it was done Pro as was the fit and finish of the interior.
