I was reading the forum and ran across a thread where the gas tank needed replaced. {really great photos and how to thread!!} The thread said something about if they swapped old for a spun aluminum tank the capacity would be too small...... So I got to thinking about gas mileage.

So what is the realistic gas mileage of a F/I A/T 412 wagon?

A neighbor has F/I A/T Type 3 square back and says they only get 15 mpg due to the A/T.

I figured a 4 cyl would get better than that, at least 20 or so.

Hmmmm, 15mpg, is that city or highway? That does sound low... but even though I have a bunch of these cars :oops: , I have never driven one because mine are projects, so I have no idea really. There are fine adjustments to be made to the AT and the FI, see Ray's posts on the shoptalkforums. Your neighbor's car might not be properly tuned...

I just read on the shoptalkforums.com that it is possible to get at least 25-30 mpg out of these cars, so there's your answer. That 15mpg car is probably poorly tuned.

allo huber on your 412 if your have good timing and good ajst. on your co. gaz, vw geeve in the book 11.5 liters /100k.m.or 27-28 miles gall, imp ,23-24 milles gall.us ,,bb412

Thanks, I just fixed my internet here at home, and was pleasantly surprised to find it in operation again. So the fuel mileage figures you posted were for the automatic transmission I'm assuming? What about the manual transmission, are the figures different?
