You figured it out but basically:
Yes, less entered = more results.

Yes, it helps to spell things right too, or just use partial words.

Do not use vw in the search box, everything here is vw so almost no one is going to put vw in the title of their ad.

Most of the time you do not want to use a year either.
I have people ask me every once in while why no ads come up when they search on things like
1985 Vanagon dash knob

Because almost no one will use a year.
Search on dash knob in the Vanagon parts section only if you want to find those Vanagon parts.

I did not spell it wrong. I was in fact searching for Thermostadt which is a small village on the edge of the Black Forest in Germany. I get my Thermo underwear from them.

And thanks for your advice. I will put it into action at once.

what do you mean blank again?? Once you make a search you can revise it by opening the hidden form.

also you spelled thermostat wrong Search the classifieds for Thermo youll get more hits for those who also spelled it wrong

edit: ahh, I guess you mean the search came up empty (not the form)... Just search for Thermo or thermostat dont use vw

I was filling out the search form completely and what a freakin pain to have your search for VW Thermostadt come up blank again and again and again. They need to get the boys from Google over to fix their mess. And thanks for the tips... gonna try it right now.

I have had good luck with this for finding uncommon pieces.
Some people have TONS of stuff to sell but dont have time to make individual listings of every tiny part they have. They usually try to sell off common(easier to sell) parts like engine components, wheels, fenders, lights, glass, and trim etc.

Dang! I just place my own WTB ad, and I get them to come to me. For instance, I asked for a thermostat setup and I got at least ten guys wanting to sell me portions--or the whole thing, down to the screws to attach to the fan shroud.

People are idiots when it comes to describing their parts. It's like they don't care to sell their parts at all. I especially hate it when people post something like, "Get It Before It's Gone" for a vehicle! No description in the title. Anyways, enter anything that could possibly be used in the description. For example, when I'm looking for a certain size Weber setup, I'll check with Weber, IDF, 36 Weber, 36 IDF, and dual carb. Try not to enter plural words. The minimal amount will work. Any extra letters and nothing will show up.

just type what your looking for in the FIND box and hit Search , leave everything else alone , your getting to specific .

Every time I try and search the classified section for stuff, my search comes back "no adds found". The data entry is tedious and I give up. Is there a FAQ or an answer that I can be directed to?

The ads are separate, you have to edit each ad to change the location.

Once you change the ads, any new ads you place will grab the location from the last ad you placed as a default.

so i changed my location in the control panel so my posts have my current location
but i still have to change it manually every time i place a ad
how do i change to permently?
