hey quick question, im lookin to buy new tires for my front wheels, im getting 15x4 btr wheels, but I can only seem to find 165/55r15 tires, is that too wide?? any suggestions will help, thanks...

I'm thinking "The Frog" is pretty cool too. It's one of those creations where one thinks maybe they would have actually tried that. Bat sh*t out of the box courage but well done and somehow still true to the tough 'lil beetle persona. Sorry about getting a little artsy there.

Do you mean less people with home built cars, normal stuff that you or me or joe shadetree could probably come up with? Lots of checkbook hotrods? Or do you mean lots of full blown race cars?

Either way, still looks like a good show, sucks it always is on the same day as CTS. I wanna get out to Shadyside again, last time I was out there was for the first german invasion...

According to an inside source.. the Steel in Motion event gave Shadyside the boot ......for good....
Some shady things were going on behind the scences.. So the club that organizes and promotes the SIM event picked up stakes, .. moved on to a facility that appreciates the event. .. Its at the Union County Dragway now...

As far as cars running this year....... New allowance this year.. true pro nostalgic (pre 80's) Funny Cars and Front Engine Rails were early, not too many maybe 6, but lots of home built Gassers.. both newly built, and old ones..
No checkbook hot rods.. some rat rods...some real cars, all real people. all good people do attend and participate... Hard to find someone without a smile on their....wet face..

Lots of fast and loud cars.. Just seemed to me they were more for the track then the street.. this year.. It seemed that trend was building last year as well.
Its unsure if the rainy day contributed for some to partake in the ritual of tent racing or the Gassers detered the semi slow but fun (IMO) racing or the simple runs down like they had 2 years ago. My brother wanted me to bring the Bomber... he wanted a rematch... Maybe next year.
Also.. no passengers during any grudge racing this year... If you had a passenger.. you had to make a pass as a single car.

NO One was told or discouraged they couldn't run as far as I know.. I just think most elected not too.
I had soo much mud and sand in my tires, it would have screwed up the track... ..When I pulled in I shot a rooster off all tires and splattered my left elbow... the sides...roof... even got the front of the Cougar....
The weather did delay things quite some time... which may have spread runs out more....still a helluva event I wont mis..
I've yet to make the CTS... probably wont ever if they are on the same days..

Now if you mean the 67 Cougar The "Cat".. I found it in decent running and driving condition, Pop is the Mercury Man, and he was interested..so picked it up.. 67= First year of the Cougar and it has 289 w auto trans, p/s and a/c....only issue then....piss pea green... Total strip and color change in and out... Its a smooth cruiser.. .... but still wont beat the Blue Bomber..

From "The 67 Showdown".. a little brothers grudge....

Hit and miss engines are spark ignition. I think that this one is the older-style hot bulb ignition.

Apparently that is a hot-bulb engine. Instead of an electric ignition the engine introduces fuel to an externally-heated chamber where it vaporizes. The compression stroke of the engine introduces air to the chamber which causes the fuel to combust, driving the piston down.

The advantage is that this engine can run on a variety of fuels, including heavy oil. If a liquid is flammable and can be pumped into the bulb it will likely run the engine!

Not good for speed, though. That engine probably makes 5 HP!

camber in the back is achieved by simply lowering a car that has swing axles. Any bug 67 and under will have negative camber when you drop it to some degree, the lower you go = the more camber. It's an acquired taste, it's a love-hate thing.

Before you do go this route, read up on it.

When my son was in cub scouts we stayed overnight once on the Battleship Massachusetts (a.k.a. "Big Mamie") along with a large group of scouts. It was one of the coolest and most interesting things we've ever done. Tons of memorabilia, guest speakers who had served on the ship and talked about its history, and on and on.

Plus, being part of the scouts group who were staying overnight (in actual crew quarters), we got to do a lot of exploring after the normal tourists had gone.

Another Steel In Motion.. in the books... Slow start Sat morn, due to a certain "cat", that was hard to kick out of the garage... .
I got a call 30 minutes before we were scheduled to leave, that pops 67 Mercury Cougar that my bro drives occasionally, "won't start"... sooooo..since I live and breath turning wrenches.... I volunteered to fix it.. ended up being a fairly simple fix.. it had a hung (up), carb float... But it set us back more than an hour...

Off to the races.....rained the entire drive there... After waiting on I 85 to clear due to a flipped car, stops for food and fuel, ...spitting and sputtering.. slooooowly we made it...(thank you Rain X)..

Pretty good day despite crappy weather. Good turn out with people that don't mind getting their cars wet, dirty, and enjoy the drive. Weather pushed the racing way off pace.. and it was late in they day before the track cleared.. so the masses were ready.
But... newly added funny car racing , a few early vehicular mishaps on the track, a track with real attentive personel, slowed the anticipated normal fast pace grudge racing even more.... my one gripe....it seemed less regular folk with regular but fast street cars were running this year.. that I missed..
Still lots of nostalgic style cars running hard.. and fast.

Only 3 "Volksrods" attended... 1 rear engine (Operation X), and 2 front engine.. The Splitty Winterjam, and The Atomic Asian.

What shadows around were getting long, our 51 Mercury was having brake issues, it was getting late and thought it was best to head home with at least the last of the available daylight......
We elected no runs for us .....kinda stinks....but it was still a great day...

We decided to take back roads home...for slower safety..and more fun.... but.... Loaded down, front beam 1.25 off the ground ... Runnin' 60...ish.. came up too quick on a fresh asphalt section with a slight burm..
I lifted.....brake checked.. and then mat'd the throttle to lift the nose... knocked the living hell out of the world..... first with the sway bar, beam and then my engine support. My pop behind me in our 51 merc 3/4 mile back said it threw a shower of sparks (twice), and it looked like a small explosion.... sweet and sour....
No serious damage thankfully.. made it home... l still got to smoke it over...

First two manifold sets machined. Still need to remove some of the casting flash but they are looking quite good already. I could glass bead blast them, but I like the rough cast finish a little bit more. Next step will be to mock these up on some engine and figure out the linkages and all that.

Nice! Depending on your tire size and suspension setup, those could work out great. I love the wide smoothie/wide fender look! 5" back spacing seems right on a 9" wheel. But I think you could go wider if you want to.

Mine are 1.5 or 2" wider, from Glass Action. They're a good 20 years old now. But my car is IRS, and that changes the way the wheels fit quite a bit. If I were you I'd bolt the fenders on first put a smoothie on there, then measure how much extra width you can fit. Don't forget to articulate the suspension to a few positions too. You should also start a thread to document your findings, because a lot of people are fitting widened smoothies right now.

It's a small Lincoln WeldPak 110 with the shielding gas set-up and .023 wire. Does everything from 22 gauge to 1/4 inch. Its been a bullet proof machine for the last 10 years.

Well, I would too if I were to do it over again. Something to be said about "ignorance is bliss" when it comes to car projects and kids!! I finished the other bumper bracket hole today. The reassembly to test fit everything before paint is kind of a nice place to be after all the years of welding and fabrication.
