Everett is correct you need the crankcase number. The very early plain bearing engines like the 1100cc and 1300cc had a range of numbers. My brothers 51 1300cc had engine P 20620 and our 1952 1500 cc had P30988.

The very early 1950 1100cc cars had engine numbers between 0101 - 0411 according to the listing I have.

As far as I am aware? the 2 piece crankcase ran up to late 1954.

To be clear - that was a case I used to own, not the case the original poster is asking about.

I learned the lazy way that the gas gauge doesn't care about voltage (after all, its just a rheostat that indicates movement). As I have noted before, the needle is a little more jittery, but the accuracy is unaffected.

The wiper in my early T1 was trickier, as it is one of the cable/brake band type (no electrical on/off switch, per se). The solution turned out to be a rheostat on the power into the motor. This provides infinitely-variable speed wipers, a property I enjoy a great deal.

According to Harry Pellow's book, Secrets of the Inner Circle, this case is for an early 1954, Type 546 1500 Normal engine.

This case had studs for the oil drain plate.
thanks Jay D

Jay, the early wipers were easier to convert due to not having variable speed and the motor conversion being about $300 cheaper! For the gauge feed, that can be done individually with a less gesundt step-down (voltage reducer) as their demands are miniscule in comparison with the wiper motor. Feed the blue/yellow tracer wire from the ignition into the reducer and then to the + on the temp and gas level units. The units have both a case ground and signal ground which are unaffected by 12v otherwise. If you keep your 'idiot lights' wired as original and they become 12v, just replace the bulbs but do a separate sourcing for 6v through the reducer for the gauges....including the clock...even though it's alleged to be voltage-indiscriminant.

I buy quality voltage reducers from: http://www.ronfrancis.com/

Guys,

I'm a little reluctant to do this and promise to say no more until we are done...but there have been many inquiries as to the book status and what I had hoped would be a May release.

We are behind, regretably, but making progress and some things are more definitive. Both U.S. and European distributors and publishers have been selected. We now expect proof to be finished and reviewed over the next eight weeks. Then, it prints.

It has been a long time but this is an important project for Porsche and their project manager is fully focused on this effort. I am very happy with the total support of Porsche and their decision made two years ago to make this a Museum/Archive book.

It will be printed in Germany. And, will bein German and English.

Thanks much to many of you for the ongoing supportin the midst of some who would like to ruin a many year effort. I hope you will be pleased----in August.

Kindest regards,
I have installed the T-6 12v rewound motor and kept the 6v rheostat switch, but I prefer the cheaper option of a discreet (15 or 25 amp) voltage reducer on the original 6v equipment of wiper and switch, so both are correct for the voltage and work at the original speeds.
The conversion from 6v to 12v is ongoing according to available ingredients. If a 12v switch is found (they existed from Porsche)...no problem!

Rare, I've seen those straps and will look for pictures. However, I'd guess that the picture below would explain the need:

Balky shifting can be a symptom of normal long term wear, the result of the synchro ring building up a tiny burr near the tip of each shift sleeve tooth. As the burrs grow, the pathways for the gear's engagement teeth shrink, and those sharp burrs (on every tooth) resist engagement. Normal for any early Porsche transaxle.
