does any one have a fix for this without taking apart the assembly???
the metal tabs are brittle and one has broken already so I thought it better to stop.

If your blink-motor has only 3 terminals, and is 6 volts, it could be a BM-200154 made by SWF. In that case, it is designed to be mounted ahead of the turn signal switch, and works on a negative ground system. One end of this motor has two terminals, + and -. The + connects to 6 volts (use a fuse!) from the ignition switch. The "-" connects to ground. The "R1" terminal at the other end of the motor connects to the common terminal of your 3-wire turn signal switch (early version) or to the common "54BL" terminal of the 6-wire turn signal switch used later on. This type of 3 terminal blink-motor is nothing more than a glorified flasher; use it the same way.

If you want the turn signal indicator light to blink as well, this implies significant further modifications, likely involving steering diodes or at least one extra relay. The blink-motor does not provide the required pulsed ground output, like the "KBL" terminal of VW flashers. The indicator lamp should continue to work as before, seeing 6 volts when the ignition is on, but lighting up only when contacts in a semaphore close to provide a circuit to ground.

I am just getting started on my 56 build. The bullet turn signals on he fenders seem to be just tac welded to the back of the fenders thru a hole in the fender. I am trying to find the proper way for these to be mounted. I notice some look like they have a rubber trim on them but I can't find a pic close enough to see how they are suppose to be. Thanks in advance
A small crowd was gathered around a '56 "Euro" Beetle.
It turns out it had flashing semaphores.
The guy showed us the "Blinkmotor" and said that is what did it.
Terry wanted to take a picture of it, but the guy had a ton of stuff under the hood.
The guy actually offered to take it out for the picture !
He said it would only take a second.
Well Terry put the picture in the magazine titled "Whatsit".
I asked the guy if he would sell it and said definitely not.
Well fast forward many years and I found another, only in the box this time, at a VW show in Cincinnati.
Here is the schematic that came with it, unfortunately, it is not "VW" specific.
I hope it helps.

Sorry for reviving an old post. But in your wiring diagram it shows 4 terminals at either end. Mine has 2 terminals at one end and 1 terminal at the other. I could do with some help of how to wire it in. this is for a UK RHD Car.
And yes, there were vent kits available to vent fumes to the outside like '61 and later cars, which included a nonvented gas cap.

My 62 has a factory vent right on the filler neck and a small tube fits over it and down through the body near the spare tire.

I don't think it is a standard compression fitting, it's metric for starters and I don't recall a ring on my 62.

WW and Cip1 and a few others have this part which includes the fitting, the properly flared tube bent in the correct shape.

$14 is a reasonable cost for this piece

That's a 40hp pump, as far as I know it's only available used. However, you might be able to use a 36hp fuel line with some slight rebending. Wolfsburg West sells one.
Is there a threaded nipple available for the inlet on this pump I just rebuilt it, and need to come up with the best solution. Been searching the forum and not finding much... Thanks for any reply... Jeff

All of the strikers I have seen were the same on both sides of the car. A few years ago I installed NOS ones on a 54, everything worked as expected.

Hi,
The door handles and locking mechanisms are interchangeable from side to side. Early UK cars had the locking handle on the passenger (curb) side and the drivers door was locked from the inside - very inconvenient. I swapped the whole locking mechanism and handles around on my January '55 so that now my driver's door locks with the key and the passenger door is locked by pushing the door release handle up. You also have to swap the striker plate (in the B post) around because it has an indentation in it to allow the locking bar to engage in it. It's quite an involved task but worth it!
Cheers,
Andy.

You could change the wiper motor with a newer model 12 volt motor but that's a bit of work, I would just use a string of diodes to drop the voltage, diodes won't limit current which is good in this application. But you need to find some diodes that can handle the current. like 60 amp alternator diodes. (6volts/.7volts ea) = 8 diodes needed.
Wikipedia Diodes,
Like these that are 3 for $2.90 Rock Auto, You could just use 6 and have faster wipers or 9 for slower wipers. But your going to have to solder the leads to the caps and put them in something like shrink tubing from radio shack to keep them from shorting out.

The gas cap itself was vented, which explains why these cars have gas fume issues with a full tank of gas. If your car has the original cap, it can't have vacuum issues.

And yes, there were vent kits available to vent fumes to the outside like '61 and later cars, which included a nonvented gas cap.
