It looks like the next step for the Engine Case is the "main body". Attached are the dimensions I need to get started. I am kind of excited to get this part done so that we can join the "main body" to the "belly" section and see if we can or cannot make a decent looking VW part.

Ok so if this picture is 1952, and you guys said there was only 4 colors I believe, what are all this other colors for. I see the primer ones in grey, but there is also white, light grey and either black or really dark green.

oh wow !!! in more than 20 yrs of vintage cars I have never seen one of those accesories electrical pumps ! it was twice the price of the standard manual pump set !!!

Yes pressurized or rubber pump accesorized. but the switch pictured looks most likely to be an electric switch ( similar to semaphore s.)
though it's hard to tell from the pic it seems as if the switches are a bit different, the knob seems to be higher position at the semaphore swich ( swivel) and the right one seems closer to the dash which could make it one of the typical BOSCH off-on pull switches.

Anyway it's probably something unexpected or exceptionally early. Lets not forget it was a <April 51 samba. And was displayed next to a walkthrough, sliding door, rear hatched <April 51 panel van.

Not for windshield washer, I don't think there was an electric pump available at that time. Most all early washers I have ever seen are with a manual rubber pump . Maybe a power switch for an external radio amplifier unit. second interior light switch ? Or just simply for symmetrical reason for the brochure show off ?

I have found a little time to do a bit more .
Not very exciting but I am taking time to understand how it was made and possibly why it was done that way .

I finished removing all the paint and filler etc from the hatch
Still not too scary

The area at the bottom of the hatch will require some work , not least of which to get the hatch off and preserve the hinge mechanism - This is sandwiched between 2 L shaped pieces of metal and both are dead .

I also had a look at the rear corners - The right one had seen some sort of impact and was quite badly dented

A little work with the dolly and bumping file and its looking better already .

A little bit more. Busy with work and life, but still keeping pace...albeit slow, so this is all for now. I will put up a diagram for more Engine case dimensions shortly. This picture here is what I have so far (the belly). Many sharp corners will be rounded off later once I have a complete engine case. Stay tuned my friends!
