Hey, when I drive my 69 Square, it smells like a mixture of gas, exhaust and burning oil. It's actually not too bad, but do all 30+ year old cars smell that way? Anything I can do to fix it?

the smell of buring oil is probably an oilleak that is driping on to the heat exchanger and then burning and beeing passed into your car via the heater ducts. check for oil on th ebottom of the engine.
Smell of gas is worrying, if your car is new to you I surjest the inspect and replace all soft fuelline. Carry a fire extinguisher.

I agree about the gas smell -- you probably have a gas leak somewhere and should fix that as soon as possible...

you don't want your square to smell burnt, do you?

If you mostly smell gas after left turns check the overflow from the gas tank, and the rubber collar around the gas cap.

Seals to the engine lid help quite a bit too : ) When I smelled the oil it was because my heat exchangers were completely saturated with oil. Cleaned them up as best as I could, and now the smell is largely gone.

Check everything that everyone said above THEN, look for perished or ill- fitting hatch seals- BOTH of them- the big one that goes all around, and the smaller one above the oil fill. Most are shot, and will let all sorts of smells into the car- along with carbon monoxide! I can't stress the SAFETY VALUE of having these seals in good condition enough!

At least yours has car smells. The statement "The inside of my car smells like..." would end a lot differently for me. Embarassed

I know what you mean - mine was in storage for 15 years, while the PO kept a cat in it...

finally, I can sit in it and not think 'cat piss'.....
