| I want an oval, but how are they compared to 60's beetles as far as driving goes? Or is it the same? |

Oval is 4 hp slower and has a manual choke that you have to tend. Has no front sway bar, or steering dampner. Has a crashbox tranny without a synchronized first gear which requires careful shifting. Smaller windows to the front and rear, so slightly worse visibility. Smaller taillights, so more likely to be hit from behind when stopping. Has even dinkier wiper blades, so visibility in the rain is even worse than with, say, a 64. And it's not as well insulated, so it's louder.
Does this help?

yea, my 60 has a manual choke. those things can be a Bi***! but i got mine working fine. as far as driving goes, they are awesome. i love my 60. since its a square window its ok. seeing wise. but an oval has some hard visability. _________________ 66 bus with factory slider!- $50

I`ve driven everything from a 1946 to a 67 beetle, and driving wise an early Square Window is the best bet, still 36hp. but after a rebuilt motor, (balanced and blueprinted) you will get out 40+hp and as for driving a 1958/60 car beats driving an oval for every day driving.....handing wise too after new tires etc.
As for shows now if you want a nice show car either one will do just fine, seems there`s a craze for Oval`s now, as always, and I loved mine too, she was a real lady and well put 57 bugman as a "art form", to drive.............so it`s up to what you need a show car or a driver?
Happy Driving!
