according to history, there should only be one Binz Barndoor crew cab
just spotted on www.barndoor.dk
the real one, or just a TIY (try it yourself) creation ?? _________________ If you can't beat them....TRY AGAIN!

Some guy on the vintagebus list was claiming he had one, for a long time. Said he wouldn't release pics until such and such date, I unsubscribed, so I don't know what became of it. It would be the type2 holy grail as far as I am concerned. L8 |

I agree !!
Had the chance to buy a '53 singlecab a couple of years ago, and the plan (build a Binz barndoor crewcab)
crossed my mind, but the body was too fare gone _________________ If you can't beat them....TRY AGAIN!

| I don't know what that is but it is not a Binz. That flat panel below the rear window without the seam from the single cab bed is a dead giveaway. |

I also remember those claims on the vintagebus list, but I'm still a member, and am pretty sure nothing ever came up...I'd like to see more pics of that one - looks like it's running bay wheels, the front bumper is odd, and looks like there's been some other creative bodywork as well... _________________ <---Air Cooled Search & Rescue Team - STICKERS & Tshirts for sale!

That is not a Barndoor Binz but a hacked up Barndoor.
The "Barndoor Binz" from the Type 2 list was never a Binz but may have been some sort of other coachbuilt, assuming it was even real. Last time I talked to him he said he sold it, which could be a lie.

Is there a treasure chest in that picture? Looks like there is some sort of opening door in front on the wheel well. _________________ www.BussesandBabes.com |

| Of all the barndoor buses that I own/have seen, in the area where I live, this is the strangest one to date, the first thing that I looked at when I saw that bus were the spotwelds along the roof line, where the roof meets the drip rail, and I tried to find weld seams or filler on the roof, there were none. I got under the car, the chassis is a 53 chassis, it has a correct beam, 53 and earlier reduction boxes etc., I think this bus is a singlecab (type 26), with a rear section added, the bus still has the ID plate attached, I got all the numbers off the plate and tried to do some research on it, later on I sent the pictures to Tonny Larson at the barndoor.dk website, I drive by the thing everyday. |

whats up with that truck in the picture?it has some goofy windows in the rear area.i would assume its a binz just a late one?semiphores wouldnt be in the rear pillar if it was factory and it also has pressed bumpers
the one in the gersons photo is also pretty wild.maybe if you drive buy it stop and measure the length of the side windows and see if it has vw logos on them.that would tell you something, because binz side windows dont fit anything else that i have seen.look for a tag too.just dont get shot checkin out some dudes car. |

| As a matter of fact the guy who owns it is coming by my shop next week, I will take a ton of pictures and try to post them on this site or my shitty site, the thing has a 6 leg middle seat that I have been trying to get a hold of for a long time. |

That blue truck appears to be Swedish. Even if the writing on the door did not give it away, the configuration would. It's a LHD, which all Swedish cars were. But in Sweden, at the time, they drove on the left side of the road with LHD cars. That would explain why the rear door is on the driver's side. In American Binzes, it's on the passenger side. I don't know if Swedish single cabs have both the steering wheel and the treasure chest door on the left, but probably, and it probably makes them extremely rare.

| another thought...that is the first early one ive seen w/door on driver side.binz probably did not make a door for each lhd and rhd.they probably just used the same door and depending on what side they put it on was the way the door opened.if you took that door on the blue truck in the pic and flipped it to the other side it would be suicide. |

The pic that Ev put up looks like a painting vs a real pic. So the artist might have taken a few liberties with it. _________________ The memories of a man in his old age, are the deeds of a man in his prime.

probably an airbrushed photo, back when they did that alot and very well. it looks like a little dirt down on the rockers to me, which would be "natural" for a hard working truck |

Not painted, just colorized.
Looks like a Black and White phote which was tinted for an ad.
Very common practise back then.
