Anybody know where the actual dash pad can be picked up, anywhere?. I got plenty of dash trim pieces for the doors and quarters but the pad is out there and I need to find it. Also the two 63's I have have a solid piece of trim (not split in two pieces) for the inside quarters. It is also padded not hard plastic. This I beleive is even more rare. Any other Early parts floating around please send email.

Welcome to the begining of your search for unubtanium. Wrap around dashes are extremly hard to find in good uncracked used condition. No there is no place that sells them. They just pop up for sale for big bucks $300-$500. When the do show up you need to act if you wish to have one. As for the door sections, yes 61-63 were padded like the dash, 64-65 are the hollow plastic type. As far as rarer? Yeah a little bit, but the clips are molded into the strip on the early ones. If they break yo are screwed. The later ones the clip can be replaced, if you can find them Wink The solid rear piece is an early charitaristic as well. Im not sure if Evs 63 square has one or two piece rear sections, but I bet they are one as they are the padded type.

I have a very good repop of a 66-69 dash which I came across a couple of years ago (pinhole speakergrill) but that one is not sufficient enough for thd erlier cars of course. Type three's really do kill the pocket more than any others. Aside from the rarer cars.

They use to make after market dashes. I remember because I always saw them in vwtrends/hotvw's but at the time I had a nice dash and didn't need it but the square I have now needs a dash and I cant find one. Figures.

I remember they came 2 ways one was just the top dash that didn't go around the gages and the other went around the gages.

I would love to get my hands on those cars. I like taking VW's that no one else would even think about bringing back and giving them life again.

If you think about it there where only so many made and once there gone, there GONE.

I totally agree with you on that one..... I remember when the factory in either Mexico or Brazil that still made the old Bugs finally shut down like 3 or 4 years ago...sad day

That was me. I made it as far as casting the plaster buck after taking the initial fiberglass mold off an original dash. The next step is to fix-up the plaster buck, the original dash was not perfect, then I'll make the final mold. I got a bit overwhelmed at work and will be for several more months. Add in three kids and a wife and I put the project on hold temporarily. I'm hoping to get back on it in the spring.

I got 3 sets of the one piece rear padded trim for early squares. I think it was early 63 and earlier. I had a late 63 that had the 2 piece rears but they might have been changed. The car was not all OG when I got it so its possible. I too am looking for a wrap dash. Hopefully NOS though. I got the cash too! Laughing

The picture of those cars was taken in Utah. I was thinking about trying to track them down while in here in Utah for vacation. I don't know how people live in these conditions. 28 degrees for the high temp. I can't wait to be back in CA.
