Ok, I finally scored a nice pad for my 66 Squareback. Now---- what is the best way to take care of it. I live in Arizona and I know what can happen. I am planning of getting a dash cover to keep the sun off. What is the best product avaliable to keep it nice ?

I use a sunshade in the window whenever parked outside, and regularly apply formula 2001. This has kept my 68 dash pad in mint condition over the last 12 years I have been the owner. Just my 2c. |

I also use the sunshade. In the past I have used several products, none that I thought was very good. Formula 2000 ? I'm willing to try any thing. I'm sure I'm not the only one that has tried to find a good product for their dash.

I have this stuff called "303 aerospace protectant". You can use it on rubber, vinyl, fiberglass, tires, plastic, leather, and tonneau covers. It says that's it's "SPF 40" for your stuff. It's kinda like Armorall but with out the greasy fell and look. I got a dash from Holland that was in really great shape just dry and dirty, cleaned it up and put this stuff on and it looks like factory! I got it at a Marine supply place like for jet skis and stuff. Try it out can't hurt?! |

Vasoline, lots of it. Nothing works better. Wipe all your exterior rubber down with it as well prior to washing the car. Makes it all look new. Thats all I use on my OG 63 notch. _________________

Yep, beat me to the punch. Spend less than $1 on a jar and slather it all over the dash. Let it sit for a day and then wipe it off. The dash will soak the petroleum out of the vaseline and rejuvenate itself. I learned that trick from Jim Patterson, of House of Ghia fame, back in 1991. _________________ West Virginia State Board of Education v. Barnette, 319 U.S. 624 (1943) |

Well guys thanks for the tips. I can't wait to get my dash and get it installed as the one I have is horrible.

So, it looks like 95% of the other Type 3 dashpads, eh? _________________ West Virginia State Board of Education v. Barnette, 319 U.S. 624 (1943) |

Yes. the one in my car now is almost broken in half. The one that I just bought has no cracks. It does have a slight damage on one of the mounting ears.

I bought a vinyl protectant from Griot's - used it on my square's dash and door panels and it brought them back to life; the car had sat in storage for about 15 years and the dash now looks like new.... _________________ póg mo thóin

I second the vasoline. Works like a champ. Seems the longer you leave it on the before wiping the excess the better the dash looks. Good on window rubber too.
