well.....last night(technically early this morning) i had my first automobile accident. Fortunately we (being me and 3 of my closest friends) are all ok. Unfortunately, the wreck happened in Patches, my 69 VW campmobile. We did a 180 and flipped onto the passenger side. I had on my seat belt, so i dangled over the passenger instead of falling on him. My two back passengers were ok and got out as fast as the accident had happened, through the camper top. My camper top popped open keeping us from rolling again. I had to turn off the engine that continued to run like a champ. No windows broke, and all passenger side doors are still fully functional. I had to get her towed($$$) and was given a ride home, which leads to my story of my first ride in the back of a police car. When the state trooper arrived on the scene, I was ready for the worst. There we were, 4 long hairs in patchwork cords, and me with dreadlocks. It went much better than expected. EMT's came to check us out, but other than emotional trauma we were all fine. I thank GOD that my friends are ok. I love those guys. Hopefully Patches will be on the road again soon, until then I guess I need to pump up my bike tires or buy some new walkin shoes. Y'ALL BE CAREFUL OUT THERE!

Did your friends have seatbelts on in the back? I have a 71 Westy and I am missing the seatbelts in the back, I am always worried about getting in accident with people in the back, I will be driving my bus with a bunch of heads in the back next month to see The Other Ones! I hope I have better luck than you did, I am glad you all are O.K!

my passengers were 2 guys 2 girls...hope that makes ya feel better. yes the vw gods were definately smiling down on me!!! when i was hanin over my buddy all I could say was, "u alright?" and "look out dude, i'm gonna unhook my seatbelt". I drove her yesterday....engine seems to be fine, gonna do a full tune-up this afternoon. The biggest problem is my back passenger side airvent is squished in and its keepin' the back door from closin al the way.

according to the story, either you are a girl or there was two girls making out in the back, which if there was I now know why you did a 180 and rolled over. And if you're a girl HELL YA!!! I dig it when chick's drive busses! And work on them too, what more could you ask for?

Girls who work on their own VWs rock! Years back, I had a girlfriend who (before we met) had driven her bus x-country. She ended up living in Wyoming for a bit & bartending in a ski town. When she was there, she pulled the engine out of her bus, took it inside, completely rebuilt it, and popped it back in! This is WAY more than I've ever done with my Thing! Gotta love that.
