someone said that the bentley service manual for my year (1956 oval) was the best manual to get but, at the bentley site link: http://www.bentleypublishers.com/product.htm?code=V157 it costs $99.95!
i guess ill just have to buy a used one, or settle for a hayes or something. any suggestions? thanks. |

Innerself, you can get the Bentley Manual for your year "'52-'57 Beetle Sedan & Convertible, Karmann Ghia Coupe (over 1300 pages" from J.C. Whitney for $54.99 (plus shipping) If this is the one your after, it may save you a few bucks.......

I have the Bentley manual for my 56. The other ones suck. The JC Whitney price is by far the best.
It depends how much work you are going to do on the car. Regular maintenance...get the Idiot book at a used bookstore, oldest edition available. But once you start really taking things apart you will be very glad you dropped the cash on the best manual available.
My two cents. |

| Yes but while that one is strong on the "newbie" advice it's short on the illustrations and technical detail. I think the best is having both of them. |
