I remember when they first came out in the late 70's.

Very cute, but i'll save my records for something a little more "High Fidelity". Wink

A friend of mine had one of those back in college. They call them the vinyl killers for a reason! They are hard on records! Kinda cool, but I wouldn't play any rare records with it!

I've had one for quite a while, picked it up at an antique store (yes, I know it isn't officially an "antique") and use it once in a while. I also picked up a worn-out Grateful Dead Axoomoxoa album to play it on, as it will harm a nice record, and I have a BUNCH of old, original vinyl, that only goes on the Thorens turntable.
But I used to have it playing on the back seat of the 21 window when I would take it to shows, only have one guy ever try to swipe it, when I busted him he said he was just "trying to see where the music was coming from" (which explains why he was 20 feet away from the 21 window, and haulin' a$$ away from it?)

Dave is that Aoxomoxa an original 69 release or the 71 remix?

I have both and the original is pretty rare.

BTW... I use a Thorens TD126MKII with the PLL control removed.

Gleen, it's the re-release, I wouldn't THINK of putting muy old Dead vinyl on that VW Bus record player. I have the original Aoxomoxoa vinyl, that I bought new in '69, but I have it on cassette tape, and use it for everyday listening, and when the tap[e starts to lose it's clarity and quality, I drag out the vinyl, and re-record it. Someday, I'll get into the 90's and burn everything to CD... but remember I still collect and restore the old hand-crank, no electrics whatsoever, RCA Victor Victrolas...

My neighbor (if you are a Deadhead) actually got some old reel-to-reel tapes, at a garage sale in Haight-Ashbury many years ago, that said "Warlords Demo Tape" on it, and as near as I can tell, it is the real deal. I know he has had well-to-do Deadheads tell him "name your price" and he won't sell it, or reproduce it....
