Just a word about my expreience with buying on of these badges, I bought a fake one about 5 or 6 years ago on ebay from a guy in Poland. I just liked the look of it, didn't really care if it was legit or not. I probably got 10 emails from 3 or 4 guys telling me it was a fake and not to do business with the guy selling it. I don't know if anything has changed but I'm sure if you bid on it you will get bombarded with emails about its originality that is if its a fake.

Maybe this is the same Polish guy?

This was the guys username back then, it was in 2001. I was thinking his first name was peter or something like that.

Just a point of information.......this group of fake worker's badges have all come out of Poland........I would not be suprised if this is the guy who created them. The one the sold earlier in England was also originally a polish badge.

I honestly don't know.......I never believed that pin was anything but a fantasy piece. The pin is period correct and attached exactly the way it would have been done for the time. There are many copies of that pin..... here is one on eBay now. http://cgi.ebay.com/German-Fallersleben-City-of-th...dZViewItem

Logic says the pin must have existed for so many copies to exist. If that is not a "real" one.........it's the best fake I've ever seen. The problem is that I have never seen a real one, nor do I know anyone who has one. Most pins would have had an RZM or Trade Mark or the German "patent pending" mark if the pin was meant for sale. The cornorstone pin and the worker's badge were never meant for sale and are therefore not marked. This pin probably was meant to be sold and yet it is not marked? Confused Most pins of that time were a very light metal and not brass........as all brass was used by the military. If I was to guess, and that's what it is at this point..............I would say it is not real, but it has some very interesting features and is better than the known run of reproductions seen at military shows and flea markets. It might be nice just to have it, if the price doesn't get much over $100. Maybe it is real and that would be a good price. Sorry I couldn't be more help.

I'm always suspicious of an antique that is too good, and in the case of that pin the way the car is positioned to showcase the split rear window is just too good to be true. That's a feature we think is terribly important, but 60 years ago the split rear window was nothing special at all.

Ask yourself this-- if you were the artist back in the 1930's and your job was to design a pin that showed one of the new Volkswagens in the most flattering light possible, is that really the view you would have picked? The rear end?

I don't think so.

Here's another one... http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=241201 Pin attachment has been faked well but the finish on the badge too bright.........I would guess that the "real" badge was probably a light silver color, not brass or gold as most reproductions are shown in silver.

I have sent the seller a message asking what material the pin is made of.

The pin looks to be made of brass. A real pin should not be brass.

If it is light weight aluminun or tin it it just might be real.

We are in Vancouver, the same place as the seller in the auction that started this topic. No doubt the same guy.

$75 for the fake pins is not bad.

As long as you know they are fake.

If these were original, they might be worth $1000

And these clearly are fakes. There should no writing on the backside of the
pins if they were original.

Was your friend excited because he thought they "made a find" ?

Or because he new they had been taken?
