Hello again,
I'm curious now that everything has been hooked back up if it's common for the voltage regulator to have to be "primed". Basically, I was having a problem with the generator not charging the battery. After checking currents on wires, etc. It's all hooked back up but now I'm noticing that the coltage regulator is smoking and there's what seems to be a resistor coil thingy that is glowing red hence the smoking.... is this normal or ????

As always, thanks ahead of time!
~Shawn

did it come with instructions?? you might have to "polorize" it, wich from what i remember before my alternator days involved arcing two of the terminals together with a piece of jumper wire before connecting it to generator.

One thing to add... I've checked the volts coming from the regulator to the battery and they're ~14.3 so that seems about right. I've also polarized the generator so I guess I'm not sure what else to do!

I bought the regulator probably 3 years ago and then it sat until now so no instructions but I have done some searches both on this forum and just plain ol' google searches and can't find anything about polarizing the regulator..... I guess because it's charging the battery correctly I figure that voltage regulators get hot and this is normal.... The answer of seems to be a mystery though! :D
