lol,... that was great, off topic my old 71 super wsa 0-60 in like 2 minues, lol, damn four bangers,...lol. I would imagine the fastest streetlgal bus to have done a quarter is somewhere around 12 secs, but then again i could be wrong.

far as i know the fastest is the dave kawell bus from the 80's. it was more of a transporter just having the windsheild frame above the flat lower part of the body. it had a big turbo motor in it and ran low 11's i think.

Guy in Portland has done 16's easy in his 15 window. I had the unfortunate time to race him once, lost by 5 seconds, lol. But that was only a 2032 cc I think...

I think the bus Kawell helped build ran like 10.90 or so. I knwo it was in hot VW's a few years back when they did a story on old vw drag cars. I'm not sure if you could consider that street legal though.

There was a split bus in Seattle (2001 Bug Nationals) that ran, I believe, in the low 15's or even high 14's. The guy's nickname is Bugly I think. Go ask this question on Cal-look.com and you'll get some replies from the many racers on that forum.

I don't suppose that old Double Door Panel, that was taken by helicopter up to 1,320 feet above the ground, and then let go, at a Sacramento Bug-O-Rama back in the 1980's counts, does it? It was street legal, although when the dust settled, there wasn't a lot of it left. Gary LaFevre, aka Bugly, has indeed run low 14's in his Bus.

It was back at a Sacramento Bugorama, in the mid to late 1980's. There was a crusty Double Door, that had been deemed unsavable. I don't recall if it was Wolfgang or Bus Boys, but I believe it was one of the outfits from Redding, CA, that did this. The rented a helicopter, took the Panel to 1,320 feet, and let it go. There was a photo of the aftermath in the VW magazine; that Panel couldn't have been more than a foot tall. I *think* it took about 8 seconds for the Bus to fall the 1/4 mile back to earth. This was a long long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away, and my memory isn't what it used to be... But thats the gist of it.

not sure what the quickest 1/4 time is, but i saw a bus run and 8.70(?) but it was an 8 in the 1/2 (eighth mile) lastnight at irwindale speedway in ca. it left the crowd stunned, it had a turbo on it though and it was a 68 or 69 i think

hey I saw that same bus being drop from 1/4 mile off the ground. there was some kind of bet involved in that one, between the bus boys and someone else. cant remember. but times were good back then. I remember that the front beam was also involved in that bet. the front beam never broke.I think that bus still has the record.did it hit the ground nose first? I dont know. but there was a lot of dust!!
