|
|
I'm stumped... I'm not sure what is causing my high beams not to stay on. Here are the details:
- Regular lights work fine
- Pull high beam switch AND hold, high beams illuminate
- Release switch and no lights
- Pull switch again and regular lights come back on
I thought it might be the relay, but the replacement I purchased has an extra terminal and when installed does nothing. The extra terminal is marked "30". The other terminals: S, 56, 56A, & 56B correspond to the original relay.
Maybe the switch? I'm hoping not since they are at least $55...
Thanks for your input!

I'd guess the relay too. There's a guy on Shop Talk Forum (he reads the type 1 forum often) who goes by the name of "Marc" that could easily answer this for you. He's an expert in all things VW.
I may get slammed for recommending another forum, but if it gets you fixed, it's worth it. |

I've noticed a lot of the same members in each forum! Even the forums are formatted the same! Maybe they should merge into one mighty, all dominating, super-duper forum? |

I had the same problem and found after doing the same thing I took the original relay apart and bent the spring plate and it works now. you might have a burnt contact in the relay. The regular 4 and 5 pin german Halla relays wont work. _________________ sold my 350Z for a thing! |

Marc from the other forum believes it is a bad relay. The new relay I have with 5 terminals will work if I jump the 30 and 56 terminals. |

take the relay switch apart, clean off the terminal which make contact(points) might have dirt or need some sanding.May work out if not too far gone or worn. |

The new relay works fine, after I adjusted it...
One of the rocker points was too tall and prevented the actuator from switching. I used an Exacto knife and cut a little of the point and it works like it is supposed to!
I now have hi and lo beams, yeah! |

Good job on the exact modification to make up for poor manufacturing. It is always great when you get er done withthe parts in hand... |
