About two weeks after I did my spring tune up, the oil light started to flicker when I came to a light or stop sign after running at hwy speeds. It's a pretty fast flicker and if I press the gas it goes out. The oil is new and it's not leaking and doesn't seem to be burning any. I'm currently chasing some electrical troubles with the turn signals so I'm wondering if them might be related. The engine is a stock 73 with a 009. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Gordon

What weight oil do you run? Was it a hot day?

Oil can get pretty thin on a hot day when the engine is warm. If it's just a flicker, you're probably safe moving up to a slightly heavier oil.

You should get a better distributor too.... Razz

It wasn't that hot out, probably in low 80s but the first time I noticed was after about 20 minutes running about at 65mph. I have 10w30 in there now.

When you did the tune up you probably adjusted the idle speed,or whatever transpired now your idle speed is possibly lower(just guessing here). With generators there is a set RPM where they kick in and start generating-below which the light will come on. Try adjusting the idle speed up to 900 rpm if it is not up there now.

The oil light comes on when when the generator isn't turning fast enough?

You bet. Assuming your engine bearings are in good shape (worn bearings are another cause of low oil pressure), a switch to a slightly heavier oil should take care of that light.
