Are there any options other than the $105 model from the Thing Shop?
Thanks.

I've heard of people relocating the filler cap to the inside of the trunk, just like with the early Bugs. That way you can lock the trunk and the gas tank at the same time! |

The Thing Shop will occassionally put a locking gas cap on eBay. I got mine for $75. Just bide your time. |

The Thing shop marked them down to $50 last xmas, maybe they will again this year.
To move the filler in the trunk you could just find a early tank from a bug. |

Man you guys always tempt me to sell my parts. I don't even use my cap because I think it is pain to take an extra second to get it off, but I just hoard everything. I also have an extra shroud that I just can't give up but then you start talking 150-200 smackers and I can't believe my ears. Just 3-4 years ago IDFs could be had for $200 easy, man how things have changed. People must be resurrecting every barn bug in the US?
Relocating gas intake to inside sounds like a great idea, locking caps didn’t stop kids in my day anyway from stealing gas. They just found a way to pry them off and you would be out an expensive cap. |

Locking gas cap is a bit of a moot point on an older VW. If anyone knows what they're doing, they'll just go under the tank or back by the transmission.
But that would be kinda funny- relocating the filler inside the trunk, while leaving the proper filler neck on the quarter. That way someone drops a tube down your filler neck to try to get gas and all they get is air.

Could always set up a gallon can of diesel or motor oil for them to find. Be funny to see a neighbor with that problem. |

I actually just thought of that and was back to say it. Have a gallon of 2 cycle or ATF in there, that way the culprit would be real easy to point out if they lived near you.
